Friday Favourites: Mama Style Winter Edition

The weekend has finally arrived! I couldn’t be happier because this week has SUCKED! It just felt that anything could go wrong this week was going wrong. I also felt super BLAH and the kids were not sleeping so each morning started with that feeling like you had been hit by a train. It was a bit of a struggle! But each day is a new one and all things do pass so here we are again at the beginning of a great weekend! So much fun going on too for us. Hallie has her first day of ballet; I can’t even contain my excitement about this. We have some adorable dance outfits to try and though we don’t have shoes yet, she can patter around bare foot and look just as cute. I don’t know who in their right mind thinks they can carole a herd of two year olds but power to ya! I intend to watch it to! I think it will be a combination of proud mom-tears and a good chuckle at the little kiddo’s expense. Will be quite the show! We are also heading out for some adult fun at the casino for a friends birthday. I have baked her a Bailey’s Chocolate Cake (yes, the boozy kind) and my entire house smells amazing right now. I am salivating just writing about the darn cake. If it’s a success tomorrow night I will be sure to share the recipe on here. If it tastes as good as it smells you can bet your boots I will be making it again soon. Bailey’s cake in the morning with coffee? Yes please! Okay so not the busiest, action-packed weekend I thought I was about to get into, that is pretty much it. Fun will be had nonetheless. Since it is so bitterly cold here, I decided to share some very appropriate Friday Favourites. Some of these items I own, and some I just wish I did. Either way, put them all together and you are feeling pretty darn cozy in this minus 25 degree weather we are having. No pone says you can’t look good, feel good and stay warm all at the same time.

Victoria’s Secret Bralette / Tupperware Large Water Bottle / Sorel Coat / John Masters Organics Dry Shampoo / Sorel Booties / Pom Pom Toque / Piperwest Watch / Gap Sweater

I was browsing through Pinterest at some Winter fashion and LOVE the look of the bralette peaking out of soft winter layers. It’s at the top of my list next time I am shopping. I am in love with my large Tupperware water bottle, and love even more that it is black. I signed up to sell Tupperware just so I could get a great discount but I got this little baby for free. (Tupperware loves to give you free stuff!). And it’s not really little at all. You can fit an entire bottle of wine in there! Coincidence? I think not. One brand I have become deeply obsessed with since I moved to Kamloops is Sorel, mainly because everything is so warm. Your fashion choices definitely open up when you move to a colder climate. I particularly love this coat and the tan booties. They are not what you would typically guess to come from Sorel and I love that they are a little less rugged and a little more chic. Now that I have two kids and am a lot busier, I find the need for dry shampoo more than ever. This one by John Masters is light and feels incredible on your hair. It doesn’t leave behind a residue as well that some do. A winner in my books for sure. For those days where not even dry shampoo will cut it, I love hats such as this one. I have many pom pom hats but I am really liking this one in black. The hat and the this GORGEOUS watch are out of my friend’s online store, Wishlist. With a birthday coming up real soon, this watch may be on my wishlist too. I love the Rose Gold and the simplicity of the strap and face. Lastly, I picked up this sweater at our GAP Outlet and seem to live in it these days. It is so warm and cozy…. plus I have a thing for grey. All items are linked back to their sites above.

Happy Friday friends! It’s just about Happy Hour so I think we should get this weekend started. Have a great weekend!

Mother’s Day

It’s almost Mother’s Day! I still consider myself a very new mom, and this weekend will mark my second year celebrating this very special day. I always made a big deal out of the day for MY mom and have to say, it’s even more special that I can now share the day with her. I think there are so many ways to show mom gratitude and appreciation! Gifts are always such a wonderful sentiment but sometimes it’s all about the little things.

Sleeping in. Sleeping through the night. Sleeping like my husband sleeps. Those would all be wonderful things to be given this mother’s day. The ability to sleep on my stomach and drink a bottle of wine (not in that order) would be AMAZING. Those are not possible right now due to being a pregnant mommy. My time will come very soon though! Then sometimes I think, man a day at the spa would be a fantastic mother’s day gift. But that would require me spending hours AWAY from my baby when I would probably just miss her like crazy and suffer major FOMA. I think mother’s day should be about spending quality time with the family and celebrating the very opportunity that I am blessed to be someone’s mommy. I did however read about one awesome tradition have decided to start it this year. It is to go to our local nursery, and between myself, my daughter and my mom, we will each pick out a flower that reminds us of one another. Then we will go home and plant it in the garden. Obviously Hallie is too young to realize what this is all about, but it will be fun to start anyways. I will just have to steer her in the direction of the peonies for now!

With all of that being said, it is pretty awesome to get a sweet present, whether it’s mother’s day or not. I have rounded up some treasures that I am totally LOVING right now and would be overjoyed to receive. A little bit of something for all of the mommies out there!

GEO Knit Throw / Kate Spade Jewel Dish / Books From Indigo / Clay Inspired Wine Cooler / Anthropologie Candles / Eleanor Jewel Case / Oversized Wicker Throw Basket / Dottie Glassware

I am a sucker for throws. This GEO print is super fun and I feel it would be easy to work into any room, no matter the existing decor. I love the navy as well. The jewel dish would be a lovely gift for anyone who wears rings. I have one in my bathroom, by my bed and even near the kitchen sink. Just in case I need to remove my wedding rings. I have misplaced them once and NEVER want to do that again! Books can be a difficult gift to give. After some thought out research, these two are bound to hit the spot with any mom. One a nice easy bath tub read, and the other one that has a different perspective and brings out all the ‘feels’. This wine cooler is so cute! I can totally see it on my patio table, with a blend of different blues in glassware and a crisp white linen tablecloth. Very Mediterranean. I also plan to do a lot of white wine drinking this summer so a chiller will come in handy. This one can be soaked in cold water prior to keep an icy chill on your bottle that much longer. Full disclosure on Anthropologie candles. I have many. I have a backstroke supply in our hall closet. If my husband new that I spent an average of thirty dollars on each of these candles, he may not be my husband any longer. Light one of these puppies up though and you will forget all about how much you paid to breathe in that heavenly scent. Worth. Every. Penny. The Capri Blue candle is an Anthro signature smell – the one you inhale dreamily whenever you enter the store. The Voluspa is one of my absolute favourites. Feeling the sudden urge to light one just writing these words. Since this Christmas just past, I have become quite obsessed with jewelry boxes. I can’t believe I went without one for so many years in my twenties. I love having a beautiful case to house all of my bits and bobs in. This one here is the Eleanor case from Indigo and I love the femininity of it. Mom will too! These oversized wicker baskets are so fun. I plan to put one beside the new baby’s crib and fill it with swaddle blankets. There is just something about them that makes me feel like I am in Aladdin, I love them! The color palette is great too. Lastly, this Dottie inspired glassware from Crate & Barrel is super cute. Fresh and summery, alcoholic or not a drink is going to refresh!

Friday Favourites

Fall and Winter happen to be my favourite seasons for fashion. I love to layer and style pieces together and it is super easy to do that in the cooler months, when you need a few layers to keep cozy. When I was working at Anthropologie it was mandatory within the dress-code to layer. It’s amazing what second top layer or a scarf and accessory can do for an outfit! Not to mention our store would go from hot as heck to freezing in a matter of minutes; having the ability to peel off or throw on an extra piece of clothing was key to comfort!

Fall has been about the transition into cozy sweaters, cute boots, and the occasional scarf if the weather required it. As we poke our cold, red noses into Winter, much warmer items are in order! At least for me they are. Kamloops is COLD! It is only going to get colder too.

In honor of cooler temps, I have rounded up some Friday Favourites that reflect my wardrobe options right now. Happy Friday friends and cheers to the weekend!

Fall Fashion For The Mamas

It seems that Fall has arrived! I know back in Vancouver, talking to friends, it showed up in all of it’s glory the first week of September. Here in Kamloops, it peaked in a little, then buggered off again to give us three days of sunshine and 32 degree heat! But now, it is here. There is a bit of a chill in the air and just enough to make you question your footwear. This annual transition between seasons can be somewhat confusing for the wardrobe; at least I always find that happens. Once you see a few Fall gems in store or online though, it’s easy to find your way with a nice scarf and a good pair of booties. Here is a round-up of my favourites for Fall fashion – some new and some tried and true.

We will start with new purchases!
On a mini shopping spree, I picked up this William Rast Moto Jacket from Hudson’s bay. It’s a perfect layering piece for Fall. I even wore it with a pretty slip dress to a wedding at the end of Summer. It was the perfect touch on the floral dress to give it a bit of edge.
H&M happened to have just about every piece I was after. I love this leather bag as it easily doubles as my diaper bag. It’s large and deep enough to hold diapers, wipes, the odd toy or ten, my wallet, my giant BKR bottle and whatever else I may need for the day. The Heather Grey Tee and distressed skinnies are the perfect go-to mom outfit. Comfy, fashionable and easy to get around in when you are chasing a crawler. The hat is that gorgeous raspberry color that we have noticed pop up all over the place and the felted fabric makes it nice and cozy for those windy, blustery days ahead. I love the boho shawl as well. The stripes and colors make it easy to mix in with other outfits and it’s a great layering piece. Can you tell I like to layer?
Lastly, the tried and true pieces from last year. My Jessica Simpson Ballerina Flats are a nice solution when you don’t feel like boots. I’ve paired them up with skinnies and skirts and they are super comfy. The stretchy ankle strap adds a bit of youthfulness to them as well. My Sam Edelman booties are a godsend and lets just say I wouldn’t get through Fall without them. Or Winter. Or Spring…. okay I may be obsessed with booties. What is on your Fall Must-Have shopping list?

Spring Has Sprung!

Even though we have gotten our fair share of rain here on the West Coast lately, you really can feel Spring in the air. Every time I step into my closet I find myself ditching the wooly sweater and hunting for those fresh Spring florals and brighter colors. (more…)

Cyber Monday Wish List

Happy Cyber Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It sure was a busy one for us. We celebrated the end of November by setting up our Christmas Tree and even getting up the outside lights!  We still have some more to put up but it is a great start. I have a bit of Clarke Griswold in me and would light up every square foot of the house if we could. My extremely reasonable husband though gets in the way of that though. Inside the house is definitely off to a very festive start and I will be posting a bit more about that later. Today is all about shopping!

I am sure many of you braved the shops on Black Friday and scored some fabulous deals. A lot of people now wait for Cyber Monday so that they do not have to leave their comfy couch. Or even get some shopping done at work! I had a lengthy browse online this morning and wow, there sure are some deals out there. So many things that I have had my eye on and they are now on sale. When I say on sale I Mean it too; like up to 50% off most items! Money is on the tight side at the moment as we are watching our pennies to ensure we can have a very festive Christmas. This means Cyber Monday shopping is not in the cards for me. I did however want to put together MY Wish List of Cyber Monday goodies. A girl can dream!

Mommas, check out Baby Gap, their sale is awesome and there are some perfect holiday dresses on there for your little ones. That is enough online ‘shopping’ for me for though. What is on your Cyber Monday Wish List?!

Postpartum Favourites

Okay new mamas! Existing mamas! Mamas everywhere! I have learnt a few things in my first couple weeks as the new girl in town (mama town that is). Everyday I feel like I am getting used to this new job, finding my way through the haze. Of course, there are many set backs that reduce me to tears. I went to meet my dad for lunch and burst into tears when I could not figure out how to bring the stroller back up from it’s folded position. I also sobbed hysterically for no reason at all in the shower on a few occasions during the first few days. I am pretty sure I did not do anything in there like wash my hair or use the valuable time wisely. Just cry! I just think your hormones are ALL OVER the place in that first week (and maybe still are a tiny bit) so you can’t be held accountable for such outbreaks. That is the justification I am sticking to anyways.

I did however discover a few valuable tie bits of information during this crazy time. The main thing I am learning is if it is easy, do it. For example, my converse sneakers that slip on and do not require laces, on my feet any time I leave the house. They are just that easy. Sleepers and onesies that do not go over the infants head, my go-to outfit for Hallie lately. Sure they are all adorable. But the fuss she makes when I try to pull a onesie over her head and get her squirmy arms into the armholes, well no thank you at 3am at least! Learning some of these little valuable lessons made me want to share some of personal favourites with you. These are certain items I would say are essential during those first couple weeks, when adjusting to motherhood.
postpartum faves

1.) Size LARGE BKR Water Bottle. I picked up mine from a local boutique in Vancouver however you can order them directly from the website, or from one of the many retailers that carry them. I LOVE these water bottles. They come in all sorts or awesome colours and the handle is great for hanging from the stroller even with a mommy hook. We have a lot of stairs in our house too so this size works perfectly for when I head upstairs with Hallie and want a good supply of ice cold water on hand.

2.) The Bobbi pillow! This pillow as been a huge support for feeding time (no pun intended haha!). You can purchase cases for them in so many different cute prints too. Just don’t let the Hubs steal it for bedtime like mine has. He insists it is more comfortable than our pillows on our bed, which I am sure it is. But still…..

3.) My brother gave me this swing for my baby shower and I am so happy with it! I have it in a slightly different colour scheme but I highly recommend it. It is the Graco Duo 2-in-1 Swing and Bouncer. Also known as the magic chair, the lifesaver and the ultimate babysitter while mum manages to brush her hair and teeth sometime throughout the day. I love this as a swing and as a chair. So does Hallie!

4.) Nurser bottles – when I first went out to buy these, I was overwhelmed by the selection and had no idea what to chose. I was told, wait and see if your baby likes the brand. This seemed a little crazy to me so I committed to the Tommy Tippee set. They seemed like a great size and were affordable. Hallie seems to do quite well with them as long as they are slow flow – any faster and she gets the hiccups. I also love the Avent brand. I only have one that I received as a sample but must get more. They are exceptionally slow which also means a smooth night for mama (less gas for Miss Fussy here). Either way I think both are great options.

5.) Alright, lets get comfy ladies. Look good while we are doing it too. I will admit, there are days where 3pm rolls around and I am still in my pi’s. Not sure how this came about but it did! For those slow moving, chaotic days, I have settled on some trusty pieces from Target. All of their pyjamas and lounge wear are so comfy, affordable, and super cute. I stocked up before I had Hallie and am so thankful for it. I have many options I can just slip into and do not feel ashamed when the postman knocks on the door and I am in my housecoat still. Hallie ain’t the only comfy one round here!

6.) I mentioned above that my little one happens to get rather gassy. It is probably her adjusting to formula. My doctor recommended Gripe Water and I finally got around to trying it out. Wow did I have one happy baby! Did I mention that I was happy too? We slept! 3.5 hours solid for the first stretch and another 3.5 following that feed. It was glorious. I felt like an entirely new woman at the 6am feeding this morning.  Gripe Water, you are my new best friend.

7.) Along with the late nights, early mornings, and all things in-between, it is only normal for the bags to start appearing under our eyes and for the normally glowing skin to look rather drab. Mine was for sure! My mum is notorious for bringing over samples from beauty counters at Sears. When she gave me a handful of Clarins products, I fell in love with this particular Face Gel. It is a cooling gel and makes your skin feel incredible. The dark circles seem to have subsided as well. I will still be a Lancome girl however this is a fantastic contender!

8.) I mentioned above the easiness of sleepers… these ones are amazing! They are by Emma & Jack – again another Sears special from my mum. They are so great though that I stocked up on about ten of them. Hallie doesn’t seem to mind spending the whole day in them sometimes either. Pretty cute too – birdie and elephant prints are our favourite!

9.) Henry could not understand why I registered for so many of these. I think he is beginning to understand. Carter’s blankets are perfect for anything. Whether we are feeding, swaddling, cuddling or changing, you need like five on hand. Because the other five are in the laundry covered in pee and other special substances brought to you by Miss Hallie Marie. These are my preference because they are affordable, super handy, and come in all sorts of fantastic prints. You can never have enough!

I hope you enjoyed reading up on my favourite products that I have discovered on this bumpy road to being a new mommy. Again, these are just my preferences that I have personally found to make life easier at times. No matter how big the mess, I just gotta look down at this tiny bundle of joy and none of the mess matters. Have a great afternoon everyone! XO
